About Us

Who, why and how?

The Fading Theory Barber Shop LLC is a wholly-owned ADOS (American Descendants of Slavery) entity, that is made up of tonsorial artists who love the craft. Here at The Fading Theory we take the barber industry and formal training seriously and strive to rise above other shops in all we do. Our leadership attended the historic, Avara’s Academy of Hair Design and graduated with honors. The Fading Theory seeks out like-minded, licensed professional with similar educational backgrounds, style, and work ethic. We continuously strive to become better in all aspects of company operations and we expect staff to have similar aspirations. We intend to positively influence this industry as we make our way through it.

 

 

Community and the industry:

  • 2015- In July we opened our first Maryland location in Baltimore.
  • 2015- We donated barber services, free of charge, to St.Vincent’s Villa Maria School at Pot Springs, which is a 12-month, non public graded school that provides intensive educational and clinical services for children and youth with emotional, learning, and multiple disabilities.   • 2015- The Fading Theory Barber Shop created “Community Day” where we provide free food to the community (while supplies last), as well as free regular children’s hair cuts, as a way of giving back and saying, “Thank you.”
  • 2015- Met with the Maryland State Board of Barbers and sat in on multiple board meetings, in order to further our education on the many tasks and challenges the board faces each day.
  • 2015- Met and spoke with the Maryland General Assembly in Annapolis, Maryland about a then proposed House Bill and the negative effects that we felt the bill would have on the Maryland barber industry, and the state of Maryland in general. We stood up and defended the hard working, licensed and legal barbers in our state to Maryland’s legislative body.

  • 2015- The Fading Theory Barber Shop donated barber services, free of charge to the Baltimore International Academy Elm/Middle school. Free hair cuts were provided to the children.
  • 2015- The Fading Theory Barber Shop offered free food and drinks to the community, as well as free children’s hair cuts.
  • 2016-  Met with the Maryland State Board of Barbers in order to contribute industry knowledge, as well as provide feedback and opinion on what can be done to improve the Maryland barber industry.
  • 2016- The Fading Theory Barber Shop offered free food and drinks to the community, as well as free children’s hair cuts.
  • 2016- The Fading Theory Barber Shop started offering apprenticeship training and development, to help others become part of the historic and rich tradition of the barber industry
  • 2016- The Maryland State Board of Barbers invited our CEO to become a board member. Although scheduling conflicts and upcoming ventures prevented acceptance of a position, the idea of a board position will be considered, should the opportunity present itself in the future.
  •  2016- The Fading Theory invented the term “Freshness Ratio”, as a measure from 1 through 10 of the final outcome of a particular cut, style, or service performed by a professionally industry member.
  •  2017- Co-hosted the debut airing of the Black-Buy-Demand radio show in Baltimore, Maryland.
  •  2017- The Fading Theory Barber Shop released the official company theme song.
  •  2018- Introduced The Fading Theory hair care product line.
  •  2018- We treated 5 clients and their spouses to a couples night out at The Baltimore Comedy Factory. Mark Curry killed!
  •  2019- Moved into our next phase of higher learning, via Theory instruction.
  •  2019- The Fading Theory was voted one of the best Barber shops in Baltimore, by Expertise.
  •  2019- Donated Thanksgiving Turkeys to Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. To see how you can help click  HERE.
  •  2020- In January we opened our second Maryland location in Aberdeen.
  • 2020- Inspired News Radio interviewed our Founder and CEO  Sibou Walker.
  • 2020- The Covid-19 pandemic hit Maryland, and the world hard. Governor Larry Hogan shut down the hair industry within Maryland in March 2020. Governor Hogan partially re-opened our industry two months later on May 15, 2020.
  • 2020- The Fading Theory celebrated the five year anniversary of our Baltimore location.
  • 2020- The Fading Theory was voted one of the best Barber shops in Baltimore for the second time, by Expertise.
  • 2021- The Fading Theory was voted one of the best Barber shops in Baltimore for the 3rd year in a row by Expertise!
  • 2021- The Fading Theory celebrated the six year anniversary of our Baltimore location.
  • 2021- The Fading Theory added two additional products to our hair care line! Ubuntu Gel and Ikechi Styling matte.
  • 2021- The Fading Theory closed its Baltimore location after 6+ years and relocated it to Pasadena.
  • 2022- The Fading Theory dropped the remix of its company theme song in January.
  • 2022- In January The Fading Theory celebrated the two year anniversary of our Aberdeen location!
  • 2022- In August The Fading Theory celebrated the one year anniversary of our Pasadena location!
  • 2022-Dec. Sibou will no longer provide faded, or styled cuts on children. He will only provide those services for adults.
  • 2023-The Fading Theory has suspended our military discount program, but we hope to bring this program back in the future.
  • 2023- In January The Fading Theory celebrated the three year anniversary of our Aberdeen location
  • 2024- In February we announced that we will shutter the Pasadena location later this year. We will then focus on the Aberdeen locations operations.

Customer satisfaction:

  • The Fading Theory Barber Shop is happy to announce that as of Oct 2023, we have attained a 91% customer satisfaction ratio. Plainly speaking, an overwhelming majority of the customers we service return to us. Although 91% is not perfect, The Fading Theory Barber Shop has accomplished an excellent following, and will continue towards our goal of 100% customer satisfaction. Have no fears of an inappropriate atmosphere, drug use, or the degradation of our people in our shops. We do not permit such things. We appreciate you, and we want to earn your business for many years to come.
